How RICE works
RICE = Reach × Impact × Confidence ÷ Effort
- Reach
- How many people the feature affects in a set period, such as a quarter.
- Impact
- How much it moves the needle for each of them: 3 massive, 2 high, 1 medium, 0.5 low, 0.25 minimal.
- Confidence
- How sure you are about the other numbers: 100%, 80% or 50%.
- Effort
- Work needed, in person-months. It divides the score, so big projects need big payoffs.
Example
| Feature | R | I | C | E | RICE |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dark mode | 1200 | 1 | 80% | 2 | 480 |
| Slack integration | 300 | 2 | 100% | 3 | 200 |
| CSV export | 150 | 1 | 50% | 1 | 75 |
Where Reach comes from
Reach is the number teams guess most. A public feedback board gives you a real count: the people who asked for a feature and voted for it. Telloo lets customers vote without an account, so the count is closer to everyone who cares — not just those willing to sign up.
Get Reach from real votes
Put a free feedback board in front of your users. They post and vote without an account; you sort by votes.
